There is the continuous ringing of the phones around which is being answered by a team of doctors and engineers along with the filing of the papers. The phone calls are mostly regarding the symptoms of Covid-19 while some calls to inform about someone who came from abroad and wasn’t home quarantined.

G Prakash, the GCC Commissioner said, “It is an abnormal circumstance we are facing. The rate of spread is high, and there is a potential for each individual can spread [the infection] to another 10,000 individuals.”

He further added, “The GCC has taken various measures to control the spread and keep it under safe norms. We identify passengers who come from various countries and other states. We are compelling them to be under home quarantine for 28 days. We also maintain a log of the database and our public health system is in touch with them. There are also counselling sessions.”

Additionally, the GCC Commissioner informed that the engineers coordinate with the NGOs and others who wish to contribute, however, it is being requested that donation of cooked food shouldn’t be done during the coronavirus pandemic.

He said, “We are positively discouraging the supply of cooked food, because if it is not done in a supervised manner, then that is a cause of concern. We are encouraging monetary contributions or dry rations, sanitizer, face masks. These are immediate necessities.”

According to the report from GCC on Wednesday, 4,500 homes were under quarantine within its limits, and approximately 1,000 homes have completed the incubation period of 28 days. Apart from this, the cross verification on the people is also being done by the police and GCC officials.

Prakash said, “We will relax control once the remaining 3,500 come out of quarantine. So far, barring a few exceptions, [there are] no big complaints about the people.”
