Gadchiroli Naxal attack: 13 inputs received about the possible Naxal attack on security forces

In the previous month, there were total of 13 alerts giving the exact locations in Gadchiroli about a potential Naxal attack on security forces. The attack is planned in order to take avenge from the security forces on killings of 40 Naxals last year.

The first info was made public on March 21 and from the time there were a dozen intelligence alerts about an approaching attack.

A Naxal leader Ramko was killed on April 27 in an encounter with the Maharashtra Police’s C-60. He was killed in the Gundurwahi forest area of Gadchiroli and these killing turn out to be a trigger for the Wednesday attack, as per to the sources.

As per to the recent report, it stated that there were several inputs, generally about plans to retaliate the 2018 Kasanasur event where total of 40 Naxals were killed. The inputs specified that there might be a possible attack which could take place in south Gadchiroli.

As per to the report, that came two days earlier to the fatal attack that killed 15 jawans, Bhaskar Huchami, who is a Naxal leader had called a meeting in the region of the Laheri Police Station to take the revenge of the Kasanasur occurrence.

The site of the explosion that killed the security personnel on May 1, falls in the middle of two police stations. As per to new inputs about the probability of an attack also stated a conspiracy to aim security forces within the limits of these two police stations and that is Kukheda and Purada.

Some of the sources said that the first anniversary of previous year’s killings of 40 Naxals, followed by the killing of a major Naxal leader on April 27 and Labour Day delivered a fertile ground for the Naxals to attack and stimulate its units.

According to the sources, it said a team of 40 Naxal were chosen to carry out the attack.

The same incidents took place in the year 2009 when Maoists burnt vehicles to aim the police personnel as they go to see the location for investigation. In one of similar happening, total of 17 personnel were killed in Gadchiroli.

The similar modus operandi was used on May 1 in order to trap the security personnel. Maoists set on fire 27 vehicles engaged in road construction work around 5 km from Purad.

According to the police, they reached the site in a civil vehicle and they were trapped. An Improvised Explosive Device was activated that killed all 15 policemen and the driver of the vehicle on the spot.

The attack was carried out by the use of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on a police vehicle which was carrying the commandos.As per to the reports, the police and Naxals were also got involved in an exchange of fire at the location of the attack.
