Well, sources are saying that a 10 percent tax will hike on imports of key Smartphone components including populated printed circuit boards (PCB). You all should know that Indian Smartphone components mostly come from China and now the government is taking steps to control the foreign market. This news is confirmed and a government document reviled that the movie will make PCB imports more expensive and be pushing players to locally mount components instead.

Also, this hike will also affect the imports of camera modules for phones and connectors. You all may know that a PCB is one of the most imported component also some other components such as processors, memory and wireless chipsets that are the heart of an electronic device. Currently, lots of manufacturers of smartphones are already loaded with components to India and then assemble them locally.

Even this decision will spur players like Apple Inc to widen their limited manufacturing and assembly capabilities in India and give an edge to those like Korea’s Samsung Electronics and homegrown firm Lava and some other companies. Also, by this step Indian manufacture could offer good quality work to these companies in less amount.

The local unit of Foxconn, one of the biggest global contract manufacturers of electronics, also has the capability, according to two industry sources. Also, they are doing very well since a long time and we are expecting that they are going to be big by this step. Also, it is one of the great steps towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship ‘Make In India’ drive to turn the country into a manufacturing hub.
