Mother Teresa is also known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta was a well-known personality of India. In her whole life, she served homeless, hungry and naked people around the world. The legend was born on 26th August 1910 was an Albanian-Indian Romanian-Catholic nun and missionary lady who founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation, in 2012 which consisted of more than 4,500 sisters and was active in 133 countries whose aim to run homes for people dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis; soup kitchens; dispensaries and mobile clinics; children’s and family counselling programmes; orphanages; and schools.

After having lived in Macedonia for eighteen years, she moved to Ireland and then to India, where she lived for most of her life. In 1982, at the height of the Siege of Beirut, Mother Teresa saved 37 children stuck in a front line hospital by brokering a temporary cease-fire between the Israeli army and Palestinian guerrillas.

Mother Teresa travelled to assist and minister to the hungry in Ethiopia, radiation victims at Chernobyl, and earthquake victims in Armenia. In 1991, Mother Teresa returned for the first time to her homeland and opened a Missionaries of Charity Brothers home in Tirana, Albania.

By 1996, Mother Teresa was operating 517 missions in more than 100 countries. Over the years, Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity grew from twelve to thousands serving the “poorest of the poor” in 450 centres around the world. The first Missionaries of Charity home in the United States was established in the South Bronx, New York; by 1984 the congregation operated 19 establishments throughout the country. Mother Teresa was fluent in five languages: Bengali, Albanian, Serbian, English, and Hindi.

On 19 October 2003, she was beatified as “Blessed Teresa of Calcutta”. A second miracle was credited to her intercession by Pope Francis, in December 2015, paving the way for her to be recognised as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church. Her canonization has been scheduled for 4 September 2016.

And today at the Vatican City of Rome the lady is declared as the Saint by Pope Francis at a canonization ceremony, around 1,00,000 citizens and people around the world jammed at the ceremony.
