Narendra Modi on Saturday made his maiden visit to West Bengal as Prime Minister and for the first time shared the dias with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while launching three financial schemes for the poor. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launching the “Pradhan Mantri Jeeven Jyoti Bima Yojana”, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana”, and “Atal Pension Yojana”, schemes at Nazrul Manch, in Kolkata on Saturday, May 09, 2015. The body language of both the leaders, as they sat beside each other, on the dais at Nazrul Mancha here, showed no signs of the political tension and bickering between them during the Lok Sabha poll campaign last year.

“If the Centre and the states work together shoulder to shoulder for development, only then will the people benefit. The poor and the downtrodden do not receive the benefits of different schemes which are not implemented properly due to sheer negligence,” Mamata said. When Mamata pointed how over 2,000 gram panchayats in Bengal did not have banking facilities, the Modi in his speech acknowledged Mamata’s demand and said: “I totally agree with her about banking facilities not available at 1,000 gram panchayats. She said this in front of me because she can rely on the fact that if it is to be done, it will be implemented by me only.”
