The Delhi Police said that a call was received around 1 am following which the suspicious bag was found by a CISF personnel near gate number 2 of the arrival terminal. After the bag was located around 2 am, the airport police came into action.

Security forces mobilised a bomb detection and disposal squad, along with sniffer dogs at the spot, while the airport premises were immediately sanitized.

Meanwhile, the police have seized the black-coloured trolley bag, which was lying unattended near pillar number 4.

However, the exact nature of the explosive is being ascertained and hence it is kept under observation in a cooling pit, only after which something certain about it could be said, according to the officials.

As per sources, it could be an explosive or an improvised explosive device (IED), but it is not clear at present.

Sanjay Bhatia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Airport) said, “The bag was removed with the help of CISF and shifted to another place. It has not been opened yet. It seems like there is some electric wire inside it. We have increased the security of the airport premises.”

Onlookers and passengers panicked and took to Twitter to inform that they were stopped from exiting the arrival terminal for a brief period. The roads outside the high-security complex were also blocked.

According to the officials, the personnel of the CISF and the Delhi Police conducted a complete anti-sabotage check of the Indira Gandhi International Airport after which passenger movement was allowed around 4 am.
