According to the latest new directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that came on Sunday, the sale of smartphones other electronic items will remain prohibited until May 3rd. The new order comes after the MHA eased restriction on e-commerce portals allowing them to resume operations from April 20.
Realme Narzo 10 series launch in India on April 21 postponed again
An earlier order has given e-commerce platforms and smartphone brands some hope of resuming sales as it did not contain any specific clauses of “essential or “non-essential goods”. Taking the cognizance of the orders, both Realme and Flipkart, its e-commerce partner, decided to reschedule the launch for Tuesday, April 21, after its March 26 launch was cancelled due to the lockdown.
However, the latest order clearly mentions the ban will be upheld for non-essential items till May 3rd. Since smartphones do not come under the essential category, smartphone OEMs will have to delay sales as well. Realme India has announced in a tweet that it is postponing the launch of the Narzo series until further notice.
Realme India wrote, “A minor setback lays the foundation for a major comeback. The launch of #realmeNarzo has been postponed until further notice. We will be back to make you all #FeelThePower.”
The Narzo series launch could now take place after when the government lifts the lockdown in the country, or if it, at least, allows the deliveries of mobile phones, which currently comes under non-essential items in India.
The Narzo series, which comprises the Narzo 10 and Narzo 10A, was Realme latest launch that has been put on hold. Besides that, Realme has a power-packed calendar for the rest of 2020, including the launch of the Realme TV, Realme Watch, and some other AIoT products that were announced earlier this year.
Xiaomi, which was set to resume sales also, has confirmed that it is looking closely into the matter and will issue an update soon. As things stand, e-commerce vehicles will be allowed to ply only with “necessary permissions”.
