When the Emergency aids were informed about the incident that occurred in the Fischer Street in Torquay, they immediately went to the spot prior 1:00 PM, however, after all the efforts, they could not save the life of the skydiving instructor who is reported to be in his mid-30s. The person eventually died on the spot. Meanwhile, the passenger, who is reported to be in his 50s has incurred critical wounds, after he and the instructor crash-landed in a coastal Victorian town.

The paramedics worked on the injuries of the instructor for about 20 minutes, however, he died. Meanwhile, the injured passenger was airlifted to the nearby Alfred Hospital in an extremely severe condition accompanied by a broken leg. Talking about the incident, the police department of Victoria stated that the instructor tried to cushion the landing for the passenger and also asked emergency services staff whether he could stand up during the 20 minutes medical staff were nursing him.

During the original investigation, the organizer of the skydiving stated that the accident was caused due to heavy landing which was the result of a parachute malfunction.  The chief instructor and director of Australian Skydive, Ralph Hamilton-Presgrave also stated that he is uncertain what exactly went wrong, but so far it could be the parachute malfunctioning that caused this incident. Referring to the Instructor who died in the accident, Hamilton Presgrave further stated that he was an expert jumper, and so capable of doing everything he had to do. What exactly happened, is still a mystery to him.

He continued to say that he does not know what accurately went wrong, but he is quite sure that the accident has nothing to do with the suit malfunctioning rather, it is the actual parachute malfunctioning. Presgrave also claimed that the Tandem jump went fine. Both the instructor as well as the passenger did their free-fall, however, the chief parachute did not open correctly. Just when they were about to use their second parachute, they came across complications and landed extremely hard. The Instructor, however, tried to protect and minimize the injuries of the passengers, risking his own life. The Australian Parachute Federation and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority are working together to investigate the accident.
