A teenage girl has been seriously injured while trying to film a TikTok video which she was imitating from another video that she watched online. The incident took place two weeks prior after which the 13-year-old has been hospitalised since then where she has been treated for the third-degree burns. The report has been confirmed by the family of the teenage girl who have spoken out in media regarding the incident in order to spread the awareness and danger about such risky stunts. Their main motive is to avoid such kind of happening to someone else child or anyone who easily gets influenced from such kind of videos that are available in bulks on social media.
The 13-year-old teenage girl has been identified as Destini Crane, who resides in the Portland city of Oregon with her parents. On May 13, she was trying to film and imitate a video which is currently popular in the TikTok app. As per to Andrea Crane, her sister who spoke to ABC News and told them that Destini was filming the video at their home’s bathroom when this incident happened. The family claims that she was trying to imitate a viral TikTok video. While performing this act, she has badly burned her right arm along with her neck. The situation is quite severe as she will have to undergo about 3 skin grafting surgeries, as per to the family statement.
What Cause the Incident?
As Destini is not in a condition to speak currently, the family tries to find out what actually happened on the day of the incident. They talked to her friends and the materials they found in their home’s bathroom where the incident took place, all the facts indicated that she was copying a video, her family says.
It was a viral TikTok video where someone draws a figure or outline on a mirror with the help of a flammable liquid and then using fire lights it on that shape. Surely, the video was quite fascinating to draw the attention of the teenage girl who then tries to do the same without any protection or guidance. Also, the materials they found in their bathroom were a lighter, a rubbing alcohol bottle, and a candle as well.
It seems to be like all these materials reacted adversely in the compacted and less ventilated area in their bathroom that resulted in severe burns on Destini’s body. Another thing the family pointed out is that the TikTok was still on recording when they found Destini in the unconscious condition in their bathroom.
However, Destini is currently not in a condition to speak about the actual cause of the incident, so the reports are based on family member statements. The teenager is currently studying in seventh grade and loves to create TikTok videos, according to her mother Kimberly Crane.
