Who is Abrar Omeish? Virginia School Board Member Students To Remember ‘Jihad’

On 7th June 2021, that is, on Monday, the youngest member and also the only Muslim member on the Fairfax Country Public School Board in Virginia, Abrar Omeish, gave a controversial speech during the alma mater of high school students. Most of the speech was spoken in the English language and in which she was seen highlighting, pointing out, and raising many issues including racism, capitalism and white supremacy. However, the word, “Jihad” in her speech, triggered many netizens and for which she earned several backlashes and was in fact, asked to resign from the board.

During her speech at the Fairfax County Public Schools, she was seen addressing the outgoing batch of Justice High School and was also seen congratulating and blessing the students for their future endeavours. She started her speech by saying that the world regards the diploma, the accolade, and the fruit and outcome of all your years but still you should note and remember the minute details of your struggles and efforts.

In addition to this, she also stated and mentioned the word, ‘Jihad’ in context to individualism and white supremacy. At a very young age of 24 years, Abrar Omeish was elected by the board members of Virginia in the year 2019, thus, become the youngest ever member to be elected to date. Her father, Esam Omeish, who is a surgeon by profession and born and raised up in Libya was also previously a member of the Virginia Commission of immigration.

It may sound ironic to many, but in the year 2007, the father of Abrar also used the word, ‘Jihad’ and a video of which was, went viral. Esam was later criticized and blamed for violating the Isreal laws and was alleged for supporting Jihad. The consequence of this was that he was asked to resign from the Virginia Commission. It looks like that his daughter is also quite courageous and has always been extremely quiet outspoken when sharing her thoughts in front of the public.

Earlier, she was seen supporting the Black History Month assembly and was also seen tweeting an anti-Israel tweet over her Twitter account. She tweeted that, her heart hurts to celebrate while Palestinians are attacked by Israel. She further wrote that colonization and Apartheid were always been wrong, yesterday, tomorrow and today and everywhere. After her speech at the Fairfax County school, people are also demanding resignation from her and is also urging the Republican committee of Fairfax County for the same. Stay tuned with us.
