The American competitive eater, Joey Chestnut set a new world record, once again becoming the champion of “Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest” by eating 76 hot dogs together with the bun (HDB) in 10 minutes on 4th July 2021, Sunday. Nathan’s hot dog eating contest is held every year in America on the occasion of Independence day and many enthusiasts took part in this competition as it is accompanied by a $10,000 prize. He defeated the six-time defending champion named Takeru Kobayashi who holds the record of consuming 66 HDB in 12 minutes.
Who is Joey Chestnut?
The 37-year old Joseph Christian Chestnut aka Joey is a professional competitive eater who holds the first record in the world for eating hot dogs and buns in the least amount of time. He is ranked as no.1 by Major League Eating (MLE) and also the fourteen-time champion in the hot dog eating contests between 2007 to 2014 and 2016 to 2021.
Chestnut was born on 25th November 1993 in the city of Vallejo, California and started to participate in the eating contest in the year 2005, when he was a San Jose State University student. He beat the record of Rich LeFevre in the deep-fried asparagus eating championship by consuming 2.9 kg of asparagus in approximately 11.5 minutes and since then, there was no turning back.
Chestnut has talked a couple of times about how he used to train himself for the eating competition by fasting and stretching his stomach with water, protein supplements and milk. He also used to adapt to his body weight according to the competition ranging from 102 kg to 109 kg.
After winning the 14th title at Nathan’s Hot Dog eating championship and breaking his own previous record of devouring 75 hot dogs, Chestnut is quite excited about the upcoming competition.
