11-month-old baby raped for 2 hours in West Delhi, Vikaspuri

On Friday, an 11-month-old baby was allegedly abducted and raped by her neighbour in Vikaspuri, west Delhi. The 36-year-old culprit worked as a construction labourer at the resident cum office complex of 3rd Battalion of Delhi Police.

According to the police sources that the baby was sleeping with her mother at a make-shift shelter within the housing complex of police. The accused, around 10:00 PM finding her mother asleep, took away the child to a nearby jungle. The mother found the baby missing around 11:00 PM, after she informed the police immediate.

Senior officers said that the survivor was found in an unconscious state by a police team from Vikaspuri police station. The police officials informed her parents and took her to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and had her admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU) there.

A senior officer said that the baby girl was bleeding profusely. At the hospital, Doctors have said that her condition is serious. Th police team also found a cell phone at the spot where the police located the child. ”

The officer said that the police team was helped by the recovery of the mobile phone to track the location of the accused. We traced him to the labour camp.

At the initial stage, the accused denied being involved in the crime, but on further questioning, he confessed his heinous crime. Police said that the accused was a resident of Bihar and travelled to Delhi to work as a construction labourer.

The officer said that the father of survivor and the accused were both employed by the same contractor to construct a boundary wall around the police office.

Police said the accused lived with the other labourers who are engaged in building the boundary wall. He told police in his confession that he picked up the baby around 10:00 PM.

Further, he said that then he took her to the bushes beside a drain and raped the baby girl for nearly two hours. Fearing that she had died when she became unconscious, he left the child in the bushes and fled to his shack.

When the mother of the girl raised an alarm, he made sure to be noticed as one of the men helping the police and family to search for the baby.

DCP(West) – Pushpendra Kumar said that an FIR had been registered for rape under the section 376 of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act and the accused sent to Tihar Jail. Police have also recorded the statements of the parents of the survivor.

The shocked father said that I was horrified to see the condition of my daughter. Further, the girl’s father said that her clothes were torn and she had nail marks all over the body. The severe injuries might have a lifelong impact on her health.

Delhi Commission of Women Chief – Swati Maliwal visited the hospital and met the family members of the victim child.
