Recently, the biggest and famous Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, Netflix came up with a fantastic and hilarious streaming TV series named, “The Chair” to excite and amuse the audience. The series has already been released for the viewers on the official streaming website of Netflix and so far, it is getting a positive response from the fans as well as from the critics mainly for two things. The first thing is obvious, which is the unique storyline, while the second being the cast of the series, especially the lead role, Sandra Oh, who is portraying the role of Dr Jin-Yoon Kim.

The genre of the television series, “The Chair” is Comedy and drama and is originally created by American Actress, Amanda Peet along with Julia Wyman. Meanwhile, the series is produced by Tyler Romary and Hameed Shaukat together with executive producers, David Benioff, Peet, Sandra Oh, Vernie Caulfield, and Daniel Gray Longino under the production banner of BLB and Nice Work Ravelli. The series consists of 6 episodes and has already been released in the English language for the viewers on 20th August 2021, Friday on Netflix.

The Chair is a story about Dr Jin Yoon who is navigated as the Chair of the English department in one of the prestigious and highly reputable Pembroke University. Her fresh role as the chair in the English department comes with great responsibilities as well as a freakish set of challenges. One she is the first lady chairman and second, she is one of the few staff members of colour at the university.

Sandra Oh is portraying the role of Dr Jin Yoon Kim, while Jay Duplass is in the role of Professor Bill Dobson, who happens to be Kim’s friend and Colleague. Then, there is Bob Balaban in the role of Elliot Rentz, who is one of the highest-paid faculty members of the English Dept. Nana Mensah is the role of Professor Yaz Mckay, while Everly Carganilla, David Morse and Holland Taylor are in the role of Ju-Hee aka Ju Ju, Dean Paul Larson and Professor Joan Hambling respectively.
The Chair TV Series Review
The series certainly has some flaws, but the Asian-American Protagonist, Oh has certainly won the heart of the fans with her impeccable acting. She was unmarried and adopted Ju Ju as her daughter. Prof. Bill was regarded as one of the favourite professors in the Pembroke Univesity until one day he gave a Nazi Salute during a lecture, leading to protest from the sides of students. The television series, “The Chair” is certainly interesting as it sheds the personal life as well as the professional life of these characters beautifully.
Everyone thought that Pembroke Univesity really wanted Oh to be their chair of the English department, however, later the female protagonist realises that the Dept wanted to make sure a woman was holding the position when the situation gets worse so that they could blame her. The series is receiving favourable reviews at Rotten Tomatoes as well as on Metacritic, thus, we will highly recommend our viewers to watch the same on Netflix.
