Oscars 2020: ‘Parasite’ Makes History Grabs Best Picture & More Academy Awards: The South Korean movie ‘Parasite’ breaks the last 92 years record and becomes the first non-English South Korean movie to win the best picture, in Sunday’s Academy Award in Hollywood. It also won the top Screen Actor Guild Award for best cast in a motion picture. The film also managed to fetch Oscars for Best Director Bong Joon Ho, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. Parasite’s Bong Joon-ho beat Sir Sam to the prize for best director, and also took the best original screenplay award.
The film is a voguish social satire about two families from very different classes, one who lives in poverty in a semi-basement, and another rich family residing in a large home. It has now managed what no other subtitled film has done in the 92-year history of the Academy Awards and won the best picture. Producer Kwak Sin-ae, who collected the trophy, said: “I’m speechless. We never imagined this to happen. I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now.” “I’m ready to drink tonight,” joked director Bong Joon-ho during one of his acceptance speeches.

Before his win on Sunday, Bold told that he was very happy and excited with his nomination in the oscar list he never thought to grab the Oscar for his movie and he added that through nominations he would catch western’s attention to the Korean film industry.
“Korean cinema has a long history. There are many masters that have yet to be introduced to the Western audience,” he said. “It would be great if people take more interest in Korean cinema due to my nomination.”
