The police officials further said that the deceased has been identified as Ratanjit Singh aged 62 and Gurpreet Kaur. Allegedly, they were riding a motorcycle and a scooter, respectively, and both were crushed under the wheels and died on the spot. Reportedly, many people were trying to cross the closed railway crossing on two-wheelers when Amritsar-bound Shatabdi Express from Delhi passed the area. The railway police have informed that the injured in the mishap, who was also trying to cross the closed railway crossing has been hospitalized and are undergoing treatment.

Amarjeet Singh Bains, Ludhiana Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) said, “The mishap took place at 8 pm when the deceased was attempting to pass the railway track crossing closed for the arrival of the Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express traveling from Delhi to Amritsar. Two people have died and two have been injured while crossing the railway track. Injured have been shifted to Ludhiana Civil Hospital and Apollo Hospital.”

On the other hand, family members of Ratanjit Singh have blamed the security personal of the crossing for the accident and said that he kept the gate of the level crossing open. Ratanjit Singh’s son said, “I came to know about the accident at 8 pm. My father was a disciplined man he can’t cross the track when the gate is closed. It is gatekeeper’s mistake; why did he open the gate when the train was approaching?”

When asked about the allegation for the SDM of Ludhiana, he disproves the allegations and said, “The crossing was closed and further information will be revealed after the investigation.”
