Spraying disinfectants is ineffective to kill coronavirus, can be harmful, Says WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned on Saturday that spraying disinfectant on the streets will not help in eliminating the coronavirus but instead might lead to several health risks.

Spraying disinfectants is ineffective to kill coronavirus

This statement was given by WHO in a document on cleaning as well as disinfecting surfaces as part of the response to the new highly contagious virus, where they said that spraying can be ineffective to this deadly virus.

WHO also explains this by stating that spraying or sterilization of out-of-doors spaces, like streets or marketplaces, is not suggested for killing or eliminating the coronavirus or any other pathogens as “disinfectant is inactivated by dirt or else by the debris,”

The statement further explains that even in the absence of organic substance or material, chemical spraying is doubtful to sufficiently cover entire surfaces for the period of the requisite contact time that has been desired to inactivate pathogens.

The WHO also stated that streets along with the pavements are not measured as “reservoirs of infection” of coronavirus, tallying that spraying the disinfectants and even outdoor, can also be hazardous for the health of human.

The document also forces that spraying disinfectants on individuals is really not suggested under any conditions or circumstances.

The document further said, this may possibly be physically as well as psychologically injurious and would not help in lessening an infected ability of the person for the spreading of virus via “droplets or contact,”

On the other hand, spraying chlorine or any other kind of toxic chemicals on any individual people can easily cause eye as well as irritation to the skin, along with bronchospasm and abdominal effects as well.

In addition to that, the organisation is also cautioning against the organized spraying as well as sterilizing of disinfectants on to sides in indoor spaces, quoting a study that has made known it to be ineffectual outside direct spraying areas.

It also states that if sanitizers are to be practical, this should be done with a cloth or wipe that has been saturated in sterilizer.

So far, this deadly virus has infected several and killed more than 300,000 people all around the world since it was originated in late December in Wuhan city of China and was then spread across the globe within few months and is still infecting and killing many.

On the other hand, no accurate details are at present accessible for the period throughout which the viruses continue transmittable on the several surfaces. Some of the studies have also shown that the virus can easily stay on many types of surfaces for many days.
