Google Doodle Celebrates 229th Anniversary of Mont Blanc ascent

Today, Google marks the 229th anniversary of the first ascent of Mont Blanc by dedicating a Doodle. Compared to the several Doodles done by Google so far, today’s Doodle is rather plain and simple. But before we could write it off, we wondered what all the hype was about. Mont Blanc, also known as Monte Bianco is the tallest mountain in the Alps and 11th tallest in the world with the altitude of 4,807 meters above sea level.

On August 8, 1786, Jacques Balmatand  Michel Paccard became the first people to reach the top of the peak. In 1808, Marie Paradis became the first woman to successfully climb Mont Blanc.

There is no animation, no gif, no “Google doodle specific” tricks to celebrate the ascent. Today’s doodle is just simple illustration of the white peak with mountaineers atop.

This doodle has no gifs, or other visual delight for which Google is known for but the simplicity of the artwork is pleasing by clearing showing two mountaineers reaching the peak.

Today we celebrate Europe’s pioneering spirit, stunning landscapes, and one-of-a-kind landmarks including the incredible Mont Blanc.
