The film is a military science fiction fantasy film, which is directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, and also the whole story is written by himself. The film is produced by Jeremy Bolt, Paul W. S. Anderson, Dennis Berardi, Robert Kulzer, and Martin Moszkowicz under the production banner of Screen Gems, Constantin Film, Tencent Pictures, and Toho. The film distribution depends on the Sony Pictures Releasing (Worldwide), Tencent Pictures (China), and Toho (Japan). The film story revolves around an elite army force, which is lead by Lt. Artemis, who comes into a gateway into a world populated by enormous monstrosities. They meet a hunter who assists them remain in the world and battle upon the beasts as they explore away homeward.

The Principal photography of the film started on 5th October in the year of 2018 in the city name Cape Town which is in South Africa. After a lot of hard work and with facings several problems the film principal photography was done on 19th December 2018. The first-ever teaser of the film was published in June in the year of 2019 at the Shanghai International Film Festival and at the festival, they reveal that the production company Toho and Tencent will distribute the movie in Asian countries. After that, the movie is decided to release on 4th September 2020 but due to the pandemic which is ruling the world, it is decided to release on 23rd April 2021.
