The 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) premiered from 25th June to 26th June 2021 at the New Dome to celebrate and honour the musician of Ghana. VGMA award is regarded as one of the most prestigious awards and is held every year to honour and respect the supremely talented artist of Ghana, who truly inspired the world with their amazing and awe-inspiring music. Well, the first day of the 22nd edition of VGMA was hosted by Giovani Caleb and AJ Akuko-Sarpong, while on the second day of the same was hosted by Giovani Caleb again along with Berla Mundi and Sika Osei.
The 2021 VGMA started with a bang as this time, the award ceremony honoured various talented and incredible raw talent of Ghana under the various award categories including Artiste of the Year, Vodafone Most Popular Song of the year, Best Afro Pop/Beats Song of the year, Lifetime Achievement Award and much more. The gospel musician of Ghana, Diana Hamilton who has a deep grasp of the Gospel and Urban contemporary gospel music style won the prestigious title of the Artist of the year 2021 and also won the award for the Best Gospel Artist 2021 for her song, “Adom” on 26th June.
Meanwhile, the legendary musical artist, Bob Pinodo, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award for his exceptional contribution in taking Ghana music across the globe with his majestic music. Apart from that, Richie Mensah won the award for Producer of the Year. Let’s take a look at the music videos that got nominated for the Best Music Video of the year 2021.
This year, Why by Adina, Fancy by Amaarae, Adom by Diana, Cold by Joey B, Let me Know by Mr Drew, Open Gate by Kuami Eugene, Pappy Kojo feat, Busiswa Gqulu’s Thomas Pompayeyaw Rmx, Okeame Kwame’s Kpa, and MzVee’s Baddest Boss got nominated under the category of Best Music Video in the 22nd edition of VGMA. However, the 29-year-old solo Ghanaian artist, MzVee ultimately won the award for the best music video for the song, “Baddest Boss“.
Her other song named, “Sheriff” also got a nomination for the ‘Best Reggae Dancehall Song of the Year’, while her popular album named, “Inveecible” also got nominated for the ‘Album Of The Year’ at the Ghana Music Awards. Meanwhile, Nana Yaw Sarfo Prince, Joshua Moszi, Bludo Enoch, Owuraku Kissi, and Sennah Emmanuel got nominated under the category of Best Instrumentalist of the Year 2021. However, out of the Nana Yaw Sarfo won the ultimate title.
Moreover, this year, Diana Hamilton’s Adom, Adina’s Hyedin, Abiana’s Adun Lei, Epixode’s Too Much, Kofi Kinaata’s Behind The Scenes and Joe Mettle’s Yesu Mo got nominated at the 2021 VGMA music award under the category of Songwriter of the Year. However, the 30-year old, Kofi who is also known as the Fante Rap God eventually won the award for the songwriter of the year for his song, “Behind the Scenes“.
His other song named, “Illegal Fishing” also won the award for the Vodafone Green Song Of the Year in the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. In addition, Adina’s Daddy’s Littel Girl won the Record of the Year Award, MOG Music won the award for the male vocalist of the year for his song, “Oguamma” and Abiana won the ward for the female vocalist of the year for her song, “Adun Lei”.
