As of now, after months of border tensions between India and China, it seems to be like that there has been little development between these two countries. China was the one that conveyed its support for India to host the BRICS meeting this year, and also stated that the meet would not be obstructed by the border crisis.

On Monday, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, stated “We support India in hosting this year’s meeting”. As of now, the reports indicates that Xi Jinping will be visiting India for this year’s BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit later this year, if the situation of coronavirus improves.

Wang Wenbin further added his statement and said that “We will work with India” as well as with other members for “strengthening communication and dialogue”, and unite the three-pillar cooperation as well. He made this statement while speaking of to the economic cooperation, political along with security cooperation, as well as people-to-people and also cultural exchanges.

The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on February 19 had launched the BRICS 2021 India’s web portal at the BRICS Secretariat at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi.

Moreover, it has been expected that the summit is not going to have to be held virtually by the second half of the year. However, the situation of coronavirus is going to conclude whether that is the situation. Meanwhile, other major summits are going to take place in Europe as well as in the United Kingdom this summer, in advance of the BRICS meet.

As of now, the visit of President Xi Jinping is not confirmed by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. However, he did have attended all the annual BRICS summits that were held earlier, whether it’s physically or virtually meet that were held last year.

In the meantime, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to make his first overseas trip to Bangladesh in the month of March after the coronavirus pandemic. He is also expected to attend the India-EU meet that is scheduled to be held in Portugal in May as well as the G7 summit which will take place in the U.K. following that month. India has been invited in this summit to join the meet as a guest country.
