National Repeal Day History
The 19th century was a dark period in America. The Women’s Christian Temperance Union, which had been supporting Banning alcohol for many years, believed alcohol was the main cause of social problems and the news speeded all over. Local bars and pubs were destroyed all over the cities in the country. Many people were also killed at that period of time. Because of the destruction, Congress on 16th January 1919 approved the Eighteenth Amendment, banning alcohol and allegedly putting termination to drunkenness, law-breaking, mental ailment, and scarcity.
The 18th Amendment
Sanctioned 16th January 1919
Section 1: After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.
Section 2: The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Section 3: This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.
The 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution cancelled the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which had instructed nationally Ban on alcohol on 16th January 1919. The Twenty-first Amendment was sanctioned on 5th December 1933. It was one of the exceptional amongst the twenty seven amendments of the U.S. Constitution at that time for being the only one to replace a preceding amendment and to have been approved by State Ratifying Conventions.
The 21st Amendment
