India at Rio de Janeiro Olympics 2016: First day, flop show Highlights

The millions of eyes were looking for the medals when Rio Olympics started and especially when India’s matches were underway, but they faced the vows of disappointment at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic games.

The biggest disappointment for Indian fraternity was a lack of medals even from the Indian athletes who were expected to claim a medal. The Day 1, was disappointingly for Indians fan and day end without a medal.

Meanwhile, the Day began with the narrow win over India Hockey Team against the debutants Ireland by 3-2. The Sreejesh led team started their Olympics campaign with a bang and the captain Sreejesh played a crucial role in this win as he saves a couple of goals from the opposition party. Now, the next match of Indian team is against the Germany on August 8 and they need to play the most competitive game if they want to win their next encounter.

Then, the action shifted to the game of the Tennis and say me wrong, as I believed Indian population has a lot of hopes pinned on the Indian tennis players at the Olympics. But, the Tennis stars have failed to live up the expectation of their fans.

First, the duo of Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna faced defeat against the duo of Lukaz Kabot and Marcin Matkowski by 4-6 6-7 in men’s double and then the female duo of , Sania Mirza and Prarthna also handed over the defeat by the hands of Chinese team of Shuai Zhang and Shuai Peng by 6-7 7-5 5-7 in women’ single.

Then, Shooter Jitu Rai has been touted as one of India’s biggest medal hopes in Rio, but even he failed and began his Rio Olympics campaign with a loss. Although, he also has a chance of claiming win I the next schedule in 50m-air pistol event. Also, the likes of Ayonika Paul and Apurvi Chandela failed in 10m air rifle.

Later, comes the worst part for the Indians as all four of India’s players of Table Tennis lost their singles matches. The names like Sharath Kamal, Soumyajit Ghosh, Mouma Das and Manika Batra were handed the defeat.

The final event, bring r Mirabai Chanu finishing 11th in the 48 kg event. But, the surprise package was Dattu Bhokanal who finished third in the heats to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Although, India failed to make any impact on the Day 1 ar Rio Olympics. But, there is a lot o hopes and expectation from the Day 2 as women’s hockey team make their first Olympics appearance after 36 years. Also, Heena Sidhu will take an aim at the medal in 10-meter air pistol.

Meanwhile, in the likes of Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Kynan Chenai has shown promises to bring the medal for India in the trap event. Also, archery team is India’s best hope for a medal on day two and Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi and Laxmirani Majhi will be in the queue to clinch medals for their country.

Well, it looks like now, Indian population will look on Day 2 and will expect their countrymen to win a medal to make them feel pride.
