The international football tournament named, “COSAFA Cup 2021” is all set to commence from today onwards, that is, on 6th July 2021 and the first match of the 20th edition of the COSAFA (Council of Southern Africa Football Association) Senior Challenge Cup is taking place between Team Eswatini and Team Lesotho in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at around 5:30 PM on 6th July 2021, Tuesday. A total of 12 national teams have taken part in the current tournament, who are then further divided into two groups, named, Group A and Group B respectively.
Team Zambia is the current defending champions, as they hold the previous year’s title of COSAFA cup 2019 defeating Team Bostwana by 1-0 and is ranked 87 under the FIFA ranking. Team Eswatini and Team Lesotho are standing under the Group Stage-Group A standings. On the same day, Team South Africa and Team Bostwana will also play their first match against each other in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at around 8:30 PM.
Participating National Teams & Group Stages
As previously mentioned, a total of 12 national football teams have taken part in this international tournament. Moreover, it has been reported that the matches in this leauge will be held at the Wolfson Stadium and Nelson Mandla Bay Stadium, in the city of Porth Elizabeth, South Africa. The top three teams from the respective groups will qualify for the semi-finals match that is scheduled to take place on 16th July 2021. Meanwhile, the final and match for 3rd place of the same will take place on 18th July 2021.
