On the evening of March 31, 2016, Darren Sammy-led West Indies won the toss and invited India to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane provided a good start of 62 runs in 7 overs and was carried forward by Virat Kohli making a good partnership with Ajinkya Rahane (66 runs) and MS Dhoni (64 runs) to put a score of 192 for 2 on the board in 20 overs. 192 is a good score that gave the host a hope to get close to their 2nd successive T20 World Cup final.

The hopes grew more as the Indian bowlers removed Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels cheaply inside the 1st 3 overs. Johnson Charles played a smashing 52 run knock which was further taken forward by Samuels and Russell who took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners and gave the West Indies team a memorable win.

West Indies eventually went on to win the T20 World Cup on April 03, 2016, after a nail-bitter against England in the final at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

On the other hand, on March 31, 2001, the batting legend Sachin Tendulkar achieved another milestone as he became the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. The feat was achieved by him while playing against Australia in Indore.

Till date, there are only 14 batsmen in the world who have achieved this milestone of scoring more than 10,000 runs in ODI cricket.  Sachin is the second-fastest to reach the landmark in 259 innings. His record was broken by the Indian skipper Virat Kohli on October 24, 2018, in just 205 innings.
