Sri Lanka All-Rounder Thisara Perera Announces Retirement All Forms of International Cricket

All-rounder cricketer of Sri Lanka, Thisara Perera bid his last goodbye from all the formats of International Cricket on 3rd May 2021. This piece of information was shared by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. As per the SLC, the cricketer wishes to concentrate and spend more time with his family and also want to give opportunities to the new generation players in the national team. Perera also gave an official statement in which he effortlessly highlighted and insights into his contribution to the Sri Lankan cricket team. He said, “I feel honoured and accomplished in the fact that I have represented Sri Lanka in the cricket in seven World cups and also contributed in the winning of T20 World cup win that was played against India in Bangladesh in the year 2014.”

Perera played his first International ODI for Sri Lanka in Dec 2009 against India and got his first five-wickets against team India in the year 2010 and also won the player of the match. While he played his first test cricket match against team England and made his first debut in the T20 International in May 2010. Later in October 2017, he got the captaincy for team Sri Lanka for 3 matches in the T20 International series. The Sri Lankan cricketer has taken part in 6 Test matches, 84 T20 international and 166 One Day Internationals to date.

Perera has scored 2238 runs and has taken 135 wickets in the One-day International cricket while he has scored 1204 runs and has taken 51 wickets in the T20I format. The 32- year Srilankan cricketer also contributed to the winning of the T20 World Cup 2014 that was played against Team India. In that match, Perera scored 23 runs in 14 balls and remained unbeaten. That particular match was one of the epic victories of Srilanka and was played in Dhaka.

After the news of Perera taking retirement spread like a wildfire, many of his fans felt overwhelmed and reminisced about his excellent and spectacular performance on the cricket ground. Because of Perera, the Sri Lankan team has won various matches with his magic shots on the cricket pitch. He played his last match against West Indices, this year in March. Thisara was a glorious and a splendid all-rounder and has greatly contributed as a player in the Sri Lankan team and also played a notable role in winning the T20 WorldCup 2014. Although the cricketer has taken retirement from all the International cricket format, however, we will see him in the cricket ground pitch again in the upcoming test matches.
