During the initial week, the cumulative net collection in India amounted to ₹160.22 crore. In the second week, the film’s net collection reached ₹46.25 crore. In the third week, it garnered ₹15.4 crore, witnessing a decline to under ₹1 crore net over the last two days. Red Chillies Entertainment announced on X (formerly Twitter) that ‘Dunki’ has amassed a global total of ₹456.70 crore in its 23-day theatrical run. Produced by Jio Studios, Rajkumar Hirani Films, and Red Chillies Entertainment, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Dunki’ features key roles played by Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani, and Vicky Kaushal. With a production cost of Rs130 crore, Dunki has secured a place in the top-grossers’ club of 2023, ranking as the 9th biggest film overall and the third among Shah Rukh Khan’s movies on the list. Prior to Dunki’s release, director Rajkumar Hirani unveiled the film’s inspiration. In a video featured on Red Chillies Entertainment’s YouTube channel, Shah Rukh Khan showcased an image of a house in Jalandhar adorned with a cement-made aeroplane on top. This peculiar sight amazed Rajkumar Hirani, sparking the genesis of Dunki. Elaborating on the origin, Rajkumar Hirani explained, “In Jalandhar, there’s a tradition where people construct such aeroplanes atop their houses when a family member goes abroad. While these structures often house water tanks, some houses even have bedrooms beneath them.” Shah Rukh Khan also shared pictures of a gurdwara, commonly known as the visa gurdwara. Describing its significance, Rajkumar Hirani said, “People visit to submit their passports here. It’s referred to as a visa gurdwara. Toy aeroplanes are sold outside such gurdwaras.” Interestingly, in the film, Taapsee Pannu’s character Manu Randhawa draws inspiration from the real-life persona of a visa engineer.
