On Thursday, contestants competed for the coveted Miss USA title at Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada. After months of hard work, training and giving it their all, Miss North Carolina Cheslie Kryst, Miss Oklahoma Triana Browne and Miss New Mexico Alejandra Gonzalez were named the top three finalists.
Before the winner was announced, last year’s Miss USA, Sarah Rose Summers, who would be passing on the crown to the new lady, was introduced by the hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey.
Cheslie Kryst, a 27-year-old lawyer from North Carolina who represents some prison inmates for free, won the 2019 Miss USA title in a diverse field that included teachers, nurses and members of the military. Alejandra Gonzalez of New Mexico was the first-runner up, and Oklahoma’s Triana Browne the second-runner up during the competition. She gets mobbed by her fellow contestants after winning the 2019 Miss USA final competition in Reno, Nevada.
Before nabbing the title, Kyrst, who is a litigation attorney, gave a powerful final speech that elevated her to the next level.
When asked what is one word she would describe her generation and why, she answered, “I would say that my generation is innovative. I’m standing here in Nevada, in the state that has the first majority female legislature in this entire country. Mine is the first generation that forward-looking mindset that has inclusivity, diversity, and strength and empowered women. I am looking forward to continued progress with my generation.”
Following her win, many viewers took to social media to share how happy they were for Kryst, as well as how the top five was full of diverse women.
