Sonam Sherpa Parkirama band’s lead guitarist passes away at 48: Sonam Sherpa who is parikrama’s founder, guitar lead now is no more, he has passed away at the age of 48. He played the guitar since he was 9 years old if it comes to that Sherpa formed Parikrama on June 17, 1991, in Delhi along with Subir Malik, who is also the organ player in the band. Founding member and lead guitarist of acclaimed band Parikrama, Sonam Sherpa died today in Kurseong. Reports state, the musician, who was in Kurseong to record music for an upcoming movie, suffered a cardiac arrest. Fans of this fantabulous guitar player are looking in shock. As per the reports, Subir Malik also one of the co-founders of Parikrama also told the media “I heard the news a few minutes ago. I am in a state of shock and on my way to the deceased’s home in New Delhi to meet his family. Sonam was in Kurseong to record the music for an upcoming movie. I am told he suffered a massive cardiac arrest there. It is not yet clear at this stage where the last rites will be performed.

He even composed music for Bollywood films like Manjunath. He also owned and ran the Parikrama School of Music situated in Hauz Khas. Sonam Sherpa featured in some great shows such as ‘Top 10 Guitarist of India’ list by the Rolling Stones magazine. He was also part of other shows like the Young Turks, a show focusing on young entrepreneurs.

The BBC featured him and the band in a rockumentary while on its Download Festival Tour. For all the years that Parikrama has spent around the world and across India riding the rollercoaster of rock, they had a mighty lead guitarist in Sonam Sherpa. The Kalimpong-origin, New Delhi-based axeman, who gave us the inimitable soaring solo on ‘But It Rained‘ about three decades, passed away earlier today at the age of 48.

As we know that he went on to form fusion band Mrigya in 1999, Parikrama remained the constant in Sonam’s life, spending year on year at gigs across the country, being part of writing songs like ‘Gonna Get It’, ‘Am I Dreaming‘, ‘Vaporize’ as well as their latest release, ‘Tears of the Wizard‘.
