13 people died in suspected hooch tragedy in Gopalganj, Bihar : After drinking spurious country-made liquor, at least 13 persons have died in last 12 hours in Gopalganj, Bihar. The relatives of the victims who are the daily wage workers and mostly vegetables vendors, confirmed death because of drinking spurious liquor.
Rahul kumar who is the Gopalganj District Magistrate confirmed 10 deaths so far. He said that they would wait for postmortem report to exactly tell reasons of death. The three teams has been formed by The district administration to probe reasons of the deaths.
The Bihar goverment had imposed total ban on liquor in the state from April 2016. This could be the first instance of hooch tragedy after ban on liquor in Bihar.
Now, The Bihar government is in denial mode. The hooch tragedy at Gopalganj may bring huge embarrassment to Nitish Kumar government that claims to have banned manufacture and sale of liquor in the state. Gopalganj is the home district of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
7 deaths were reported for the Nonia Toli area of Gopalganj town. Several relatives said that over one and a half dozen of people who were mostly habitual drinkers, had drank liquor on Monday night at Khajurbani near railways crossing on Harkhua Road under Town police station. The area has been infamous for selling liquor openly for Rs 80-100 per pouch despite prohibition.
Since the Tuesday morning, Most of the people had started complaining of headache, vomiting, uneasiness and nausea. Firstly, they were admitted to Sadar Hospital of the town, 6 persons were later referred to Gorakhpur.
By late evening, 6 persons died but local administration played it down and called it death under mysterious circumstances.
